GREAT  NORTHERN  COURTYARD  RENDERS

This page contains renderings from the Learning Sites® 3D computer model of the Great Northern Courtyard of the Northwest Palace.  The Courtyard was most likely the entrance to the Throne Room Suite (although the enclosure walls were probably built after the main part of the Palace).  The images here are arranged chronologically, with the most recent ones first.

AP - View south across the Great Northern Courtyard toward the Throne Room facade (added elements include: updated crenellations and parapet details, and an expanded group of visitors bearing gifts for the king and leaving their audience).

Model Version 12.

A0 - View into the southeast corner alcove of the Great Northern Courtyard containing the so-called Banquet Stela of King Ashurnasirpal II (note that this rendering is warped and so that we can see the context of the stela).

Model Version 12.

AN - View southwest across the Great Northern Courtyard toward the visitors' entrance into the Throne Room (added elements include: updated crenellations and parapet details, and an expanded group of visitors bearing gifts for the king).

Model Version 12.

AM - View southwest across the Great Northern Courtyard toward the visitors' entrance into the Throne Room (added elements include: towers flanking the central entrance, improved lighting and atmospherics, and a group of visitors bearing gifts for the king).

Model Version 11.

AL - View of the tour kiosk in the courtyard (there are other kiosks in the major interior rooms); walking near the kiosk grabs the attention of the tourguide, who then approaches you (see next screen below).

Model Version 11.

AK - View of the 'select a tour' tablet, which the tourguide holds up for you once he approaches asking whether you would like to take a tour; clicking on one of the red dots initiates the tour.

The guide leads you to the selected destination, providing text descriptions of points of interest passed by en route (see below for the last step in the tour).

Model Version 11.

AJ - View of one of the link tablets that gets shown to you once you reach the selected destination. From this tablet you can select more information about the location, via photos, descriptions, or interactive 3D models.

You can then either select another tour, or dismiss the guide and continue exploring on your own.

Model Version 11.
