ASHUR-NASIR-PAL (or CENTRAL) BUILDLING

The Lamassu Models

General Background

The facade (facing south) of the Ashur-nasir-pal II Building (or, the Central Building) has two sets of bull and lion lamassu flanking the central doorway. The animals survive only partially, mostly from their lower body downward. Our 3D computer models are based on photographs of the animals taken during the 1974 Polish re-excavations of the site.

For further discussion of their dimensions, state of preservation, and findspots, see the page of photographs; for renderings of the lamassu generated from our 3D computer models, see the page of renderings.
